A Grammy Nomination is an exciting way to wrap up the year, and the wonderful family music of The Okee Dokee Brothers has received that honor!? Their album Can You Canoe?? received a nomination for Best Children?s Album for the 55th Grammy Awards.
Last June, Justin Lansing and Joe Mailander paddled the Mississippi River from the Twin Cities to St. Louis.? They hired a video crew to go along on the 30-day canoe trip when they filmed both a DVD and, subsequently, wrote an album about their adventures.? That album became Can You Canoe?

Mailander and Lansing grew up as best friends in Denver, Colorado, where they dreamed of becoming professional singer-songwriters. Their dream came true and they spent years touring the Midwest with their bluegrass band. As time passed, they decided to keep their folk music roots, but return it to where it all began: childhood imagination. That?s when they moved to Minneapolis to start their ?kindie? band called The Okee Dokee Brothers. Their mission is to remind children ? and adults ? of their intrinsic ability to discover, imagine, and create through music.
The Grammy is presented annually by The Recording Academy, and is the industry?s most prestigious award.? The Okee Dokee Brothers have received national notice for several other endeavors, as well.? The Okee Dokee Brothers won national notice for their first CD release Kids with Beards in 2008, and their second CD Take it Outside is produced by Grammy award nominated Tor Hyams and showcases guest artist Adam Levy of ?The Honey Dogs? on electric guitar. In addition, they won a Parents Choice Award for Take It Outside, and Can You Canoe? was voted the Best Kids and Family Album of the Year by the 2012 Fids & Kamily Music Awards in November.
